An innovative business idea in 1970 of importing quality Indian moccasins from North America into the UK led to the formation of the company,
Clifford James. The second innovation came with the formation of this company name, done by combining the middle names of the two founding business partners of this company—Keith James Russel and Ian Clifford Garbutt. The UK market found this footwear very comfortable and from this came the realization that the need of the hour was comfortable shoes at economical prices.
The Clifford James line of footwear gained a good reputation and, by 1987, could sell 130,000 pairs of shoes from its eight-page catalogue. Today, this Company has a 130,000 sq. ft large warehouse and an office complex, with an employee base of more than 120 people and 600,000 customers. Now, the
Clifford James UK line of products is no longer restricted to footwear but include home and garden products, but health and hobby items too. Every year, they ship more than 800,000 orders to their customers.
